Not for the faint-hearted: more than 40 years after its premiere, “Alien” still makes many people’s blood run cold. But even horror fans with nerves of steel should watch out for a clip from the cult film – at least if they have a Pixel 7 (Pro) or another current Google cell phone. Now the manufacturer has reacted.

Pixel 7 (Pro) crashes on Alien clip on YouTube
Owners of both smartphones are currently reporting a strange problem. After watching a specific Clips from the classic film “Alien” (see below) would Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro spontaneously give up the ghost and crash (via Android Authority). The Android Authority colleagues tested it and were able to confirm the strange phenomenon.
The error appears only in the YouTube app to perform. When said video is viewed in the browser, there seems to be no problem. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6a are also said to suffer from the quirk, although not to the same extent as current Google phones.
After a restart everything should be fixed again, they say. In some cases, however, the Cellular connection missing. Then another restart is necessary.

It is not yet known what caused the crashes. It is speculated that it is related to the HDR processing of Google phones. The alien clip in question is available in 4K HDR. Google itself has not yet commented on the problem.
We recommend: Even if the problems can be solved with a restart or two, owners of the affected devices should not watch the video.
