The planned ban on oil and gas heating caught many people in Germany off guard. The cost of climate-friendly heating runs into the tens of thousands. Many are wondering how to pay for it. Economics Minister Habeck promises billions via a funding program that has completely new rules.
Billions in funding planned for climate-friendly heating
Fear is rampant in Germany. If an oil or gas heating system breaks down after 2024, it must be replaced with a climate-friendly alternative that runs on 65 percent renewable energies. Depending on the situation, a heat pump can cost up to 40,000 euros. These are expenses that hardly anyone can easily pay for. Economics Minister Habeck is therefore planning a new support program which based on income for the first time (Source: daily mirror).
So far, everyone has received the same amount of funding, no matter how high their income is. This should change in the future when replacing oil and gas heating systems. Then should low and middle incomes receive higher support, in order to be able to carry out the conversion to a climate-friendly heating system. How exactly the details and amounts will look like is not yet known. The Ministry of Economics is currently working on a precise implementation.
What is clear, however, is that a completely new path taken and people with low and middle incomes, who cannot afford such a conversion, will be relieved more. “Climate neutrality must not become a social problem,” says Robert Habeck.

Juicy penalties threaten non-exchange
In the meantime, it has also become known that there are high penalties if a defective gas or oil heating system is not replaced. There is currently talk of up to 50,000 euros. In addition, the chimney sweeps should be obliged to report violations to the authorities. However, old heaters can still be repaired as long as they are not more than 30 years old.
