In “Final Fantasy 7: Revelation” users are presented with a large, open game world. However, the world will no longer necessarily look the same as it did in its predecessors.
As part of the main show Summer Game Fest 2026 Square Enix presented the final part of the „Final Fantasy 7 Remake“trilogy. „Final Fantasy 7: Revelation“ marks the return of popular characters Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine.
Through Captain Cid, players also have access to the airship Highwind. This completely opens up the game world. “Final Fantasy 7: Revelation” should also contain all areas from the second part „Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth“ receive. However, these should not look exactly as the players remember them.
The game world will open up even more
In the first part of the remake of. released in 2020 „Final Fantasy 7“ The action still took place on linear maps. The second part, “Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth”, published in 2024, opened up the game world. However, it still consisted of several cards connected together.
The upcoming “Final Fantasy 7: Revelation” is supposed to be completely different. Because the game is not only supposed to offer a completely open game world. This should also be larger and significantly expanded. As director Naoki Hamaguchi states, the game world of “Revelation” will be even larger than all of the individual maps of “Rebirth” combined.
“With the third part of our ‘FF7’ remake series, ‘Revelation’, we offer an even larger open world,” said Hamaguchi in an interview with GamesRadar. “This of course works via the Highwind function, with which players can fly around in the open world and parachute into any location.”

“But that’s not all: If you look at the size, the map is not only much larger in horizontal width than in ‘Rebirth’. But also in vertical depth, because now you can also explore the sky.”
But the world looks a little different
Hamaguchi previously stated that all areas from “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” can also be visited again in “Final Fantasy 7 Revelation”. However, these will no longer be the same as you know them from the second game.
“I’m pleased to say that all of the areas featured in ‘Rebirth’ will appear in ‘Revelation’ to the same extent, if not greater,” said the developer. “We didn’t want to just leave it the way it was in Rebirth. We’re actually adding some little details and twists.”

“For example, when you visit certain areas in the game, you can see the meteor falling from the sky,” Hamaguchi continued. “So it won’t just be exactly the same areas as in Rebirth, I can say that.”
Final Fantasy 7: Revelation is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC. The game is scheduled to be released in spring 2027.
