Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy: A whopping 33 minutes of gameplay show the perfect balance of action, exploration & puzzles –

A brand new gameplay video for “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” provides over 33 minutes of comprehensive insights into the upcoming prequel, and it becomes clear: Despite the new action direction, the series roots are by no means neglected.

More than three and a half years later „A Plague Tale: Requiem“ There is finally something new in the starting blocks for fans: the release of „Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy“ is now getting closer and closer after the concrete release date for next August was cemented at the beginning of June.

In keeping with this, the official preview embargo fell this Tuesday, which is why lots of fresh impressions are now available. This also includes a brand new and extremely extensive gameplay video that provides unfiltered insights into Sophia’s adventure for over half an hour.

Farewell to Amicia: The pirate Sophia asks you to dance

You read that right: “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” is not a continuation of the well-known story. Instead, the game presents itself as a prequel to the first two parts and focuses on the smuggler known from “Requiem” and her backstory instead of the established heroes.

Set in 1334 – around 15 years before the events of “A Plague Tale: Requiem” – Sofia and her friend Leni end up on the island of Minotaur. And what awaits players there represents a significant break with the previously known gameplay of the series.

Because while Amicia mostly had to hide in the tall grass, Sophia is a trained, agile fighter. The new footage makes it abundantly clear that the dynamics of “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” are almost more reminiscent of action blockbusters like „Uncharted“ or „Tomb Raider“ remembered.

Sophia fights with sword and dagger at the same time, while she dodges at the right moment, parries enemy attacks and can even use cinematic finishing moves. In between, you have to explore the old ruins, do some climbing and of course solve a number of puzzles.

Don’t worry: stealth elements remain part of the experience

Anyone who fears that “Resonance” will degenerate into a pure action slasher can breathe a sigh of relief. Because in Sophia’s adventure you can sneak to your heart’s content, while the surroundings can still be used for clever diversionary maneuvers.

The stealth mechanic is particularly effective in the passages in which Sophia has to flee from a scary creature. Because it is no match for this offspring of the island in direct combat: as soon as you get caught, you are threatened with an immediate game over screen. As a result, “Resonance” even creates a pleasant portion of horror atmosphere in the dark caves.

We have also been able to play “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” extensively:

Resonance A Plague Tale: A determined warrior with sword and dagger, surrounded by an epic fantasy landscape with temples and other warriors.Resonance A Plague Tale: A determined warrior with sword and dagger, surrounded by an epic fantasy landscape with temples and other warriors.

That being said, the atmosphere is a big plus point of the prequel anyway, which is not least due to the beautiful visual presentation. This is once again achieved thanks to Asobo Studio’s in-house Zouna engine. An important note about the new gameplay video: The material shown there comes from the PC version and runs in crisp ultra settings.

When released, “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” will appear not only on the PC but also for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S – on August 27, 2026.
