As Microsoft confirmed today, the company is aiming for an Xbox-exclusive console release for both “Gears of War: E-Day” and “Clockwork Revolution”. But what does this all mean for PS5 players and titles already announced for Sony’s console like “Fable” or “Halo: Campaign Evolved”? The company is clarifying.
In February, Microsoft led a change in leadership at Xbox: Phil Spencer, the face of the brand for years, left the company. At the same time, Asha Sharma was appointed as the new CEO of the gaming division, which will lead Xbox into a successful future.
Shortly after taking over, Sharma reached out to the community and asked players for constructive feedback and suggestions for the future of the brand. Not surprisingly, after the recently consistently pursued multiplatform strategy, there was primarily a return to console-exclusive Xbox titles, which most players supported.
After Sharma last confirmed several timesThat this strategy was put to the test internally and discussed in detail, today’s Xbox Games Showcase 2026 delivered the first results.
As Microsoft announced, it is both „Gears of War: E-Day“ as well as at „Clockwork Revolution“ about games that are available on the consoles exclusively for the Xbox Series X/S will be available.
Console exclusivity returns (partially).
In order to clear up any misunderstandings or rumors in this regard at an early stage, the company confirmed after today’s showcase that this is not a time exclusivity, but rather a full console exclusivity.
Players should therefore not expect that “Gears of War: E-Day” and “Clockwork Revolution” will be released for other platforms such as the PS5 at a later date.

With this return to exclusivity, Microsoft aims to sustainably strengthen the Xbox brand’s profile. At the same time, the group emphasized that there will be no change to the multiplatform strategy of the games already announced for other platforms.
That means: title like „Halo: Campaign Evolved“, „Fable“ or the successful racing game “Forza Horizon 6” will appear for the PS5 as announced.
Focus on strengthening Xbox identity
“As part of our focus on the return of Xbox, we also announced that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be Xbox console exclusives. These are not timed exclusives. Games already announced for multiplatform releases will remain with this plan,” Microsoft said.
“We are committed to investing in and growing Xbox both on console and beyond.”

It remains unclear whether Microsoft will completely return to console-exclusive Xbox games in the future or whether it will only resort to exclusivity in individual cases. Today’s Xbox Games Showcase 2026 painted at least a mixed picture in this regard.
While PS5 players are left empty-handed with “Gears of War: E-Day” and “Clockwork Revolution,” Microsoft announced other Xbox games like „Senua“ or „State of Decay 3“ also available today for the PS5.
