Will Nintendo be the culmination of the Summer Game Fest? Apparently the next Direct full of Switch 2 games is already in the starting blocks after two well-known insiders named the specific date for the next show.
Last night Sony rang the bell with a brand new edition of State of Play this year’s Summer Game Fest week and, among other things, boasted the unveiling of „God of War Laufey“, „Until Dawn 2“ as well as detailed gameplay „Marvel’s Wolverine“ for the favor of the gaming community.
And during the next highlight with Geoff Keighleys big SGF showcase is already in the starting blocks next Friday and Microsoft will be launching on Sunday Xbox Games Showcase Nintendo has traditionally stayed in the background – at least for now.
Now it looks as if the Japanese could end what is probably the hottest gaming week of the year with a new Nintendo Direct.
When is the Nintendo Direct taking place? Insiders agree
Two well-known and extremely reliable insiders got the ball rolling: journalist Jeff Grubb and leaker NateTheHate. And therefore the next Nintendo Direct should be broadcast next week.
Grubb explained in the latest edition of the podcast Last of the Nintendogsthat his sources all point to a very specific date: Tuesday, June 9, 2026. According to Grubb, the broadcast will probably take place in the US morning, which for us in Europe would mean an afternoon or early evening event as usual.
Although the industry expert kept a back door open for Wednesday, June 10th, he emphasized: “The date I keep hearing is next Tuesday.”
Grubb’s theory receives support from NateTheHate, who in his Podcast also confirmed that the next Nintendo Direct was planned for the second week of June – i.e. from June 8th. It is also rumored that a detailed Nintendo Treehouse event could follow just two days later, on June 11th, where newly announced titles will be presented directly in long gameplay presentations.
Why it has to be a big direct – and what could be shown
At this point we would of course like to point out, as usual, that all dates should be viewed with the necessary amount of caution as long as there is no official announcement from Nintendo.
However, since the reports from various insiders in the run-up to the Summer Game Fest are so consistent, an official confirmation from the Japanese should only be a matter of hours or a few days. Before that it was already the well-known leaker Nash Weedlewhich also brought June 9th into the conversation.
In addition: Nintendo presented the last full, general Direct in September 2025, while the community only received a smaller one last February Partner Showcase fobbed off.
And since the Switch 2 is now entering its second year of life, but the game line-up for the second half of 2026 is extremely thin so far, it’s about time for a big show. After all, fans are eagerly waiting for concrete release dates for titles that have already been announced „The Duskbloods“ or “Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave”.
