A brand new trailer for “Clockwork Revolution” provides fresh insights into inXile’s steampunk role-playing game and further narrows down the release period. There is also final certainty for PS5 owners – but this is likely to cause disappointment for many RPG fans.
After the last trailer „Clockwork Revolution“ After the new project from the RPG experts at inXile (“Wasteland 3”) had been pretty quiet for a good year, today they returned with fresh image material as part of the big Xbox Games Showcase.
On top of that, the release has been narrowed down further: The promising steampunk role-playing game is scheduled to be released in 2027. But PS5 players have to be strong now.
After RPG fans had recently hoped for a port, Microsoft today made it clear that “Clockwork Revolution” – as well „Gears of War: E-Day“ – as permanent Xbox exclusive title will appear. This means that a PS5 release is finally off the table.
A robbery gone wrong and the hunt for the chronometer
Meanwhile, the new trailer titled “The Heist” strikes a slightly different tone than the previous material. Although the game still doesn’t skimp on its pompous Victorian aesthetic, this time a pinch of humor – as we already know from inXile – comes to the fore.
The focus of the new video is the crew around protagonist Morgan Vanette, the so-called Rotten Row Hooligans – Ulysses, Nazim, Erasmus, Hazel and Anne. After everything that could go wrong goes wrong during a robbery, Morgan is thrown back in time amid the chaos by the flying drone Prentice.
He discovers the chronometer – the device that forms the foundation of the entire game and makes time travel possible in the first place.
The Butterfly Effect: When companions die suddenly
As game director Chad Moore told him Xbox Wire emphasizes, “Clockwork Revolution” is intended to transfer the extreme freedom of choice of classic, isometric role-playing games into the first-person perspective. The heart of the gameplay: the so-called butterfly effect.
Specifically, this means: Whoever pulls the strings of history in the past drastically changes the present. This not only affects the appearance of the districts, but above all the characters.
Your own hooligan colleagues are not classic companions who stubbornly follow you around. Instead, they lead their own lives. And due to interventions in the past, crew members can suddenly find themselves rich, impoverished, hostile or simply dead when they return to the present.
Time manipulation as a weapon in battle
Aside from the story and the profound dialogues, the time travel feature will also be effective in the battles in which “Clockwork Revolution” presents itself as a real shooter.
Among other things, the trailer introduced the “Displace” ability, which can be used to instantly reposition objects in space. This can be used, for example, to clear blocked paths or to throw an explosive barrel into the middle of a group of enemies.
You are also supported in the fights by the drone Prentice, who has her own skill tree and enables completely new perspectives on the game world.

Although the release period has now been narrowed down further, we still don’t have an exact date. According to Moore, the team is working hard to complete it and can’t wait for fans to play the game.
Maybe it will happen in the first half of 2027. But then only on the Xbox Series X/S and the PC, as is now clear.
