Luisa escapes from everyday working life to a magical Alpine village full of challenges. Players are currently experiencing this original combination of combat and social interactions at a particularly low price.
An Austrian mountain village, 25 magical dungeons and an unexpected gameplay mix: This indie action RPG combines dungeon crawling with a social simulation system that actually intervenes in the gameplay.
“Dungeons of Hinterberg” takes place in a fictional Austrian Alpine village. Players take on the role of Luisa, who escapes the hamster wheel of professional life and spends her vacation exploring dungeons, of all things. What sets the game apart from other “Zelda”-like titles are the social systems. They are just as important to game design as the dungeons themselves.
Alpine magic at a bargain price
The standard edition currently costs PlayStation-Store only 6.59 euros instead of 21.99 euros, which is a 70 percent discount means. This corresponds to a saving of 15.40 euros. Interested parties still have until June 11th at 10:59 a.m. to take advantage of the offer.
“Dungeons of Hinterberg” has excellent ratings in the PlayStation Store. The score is a whopping 4.7 out of 5 possible stars, but based on only 560 ratings.
The metascore is based on the PC version at 80. The trade press particularly praises the creative dungeon design and the successful mix of genres. Critics also highlight the imaginative fusion of exploration and social simulation.
The combat, however, stands out as a weak point: The combat system is considered repetitive and superficial, with limited opponent variety. Minor technical discrepancies are also mentioned. However, anyone who agrees with the focus on puzzles and atmosphere will get an unusually harmonious package.

What does the game offer? Each of the 25 dungeons in “Dungeons of Hinterberg” has its own unique game mechanics. Puzzles, fighting and exploring are closely intertwined. The spells you learn are not just combat skills, but can also be used outside of the dungeons to solve puzzles.
In the evening the players return to the village. They build relationships with characters through conversations and gifts. By the way, entire game mechanics remain closed, depending on which people Luisa befriends and which she doesn’t. This element encourages you to start a second run later.
Anyone who appreciates open game worlds with a real focus on puzzles and a surprisingly warm-hearted cast of characters will definitely make a good choice here. “Dungeons of Hinterberg” is a small Austrian indie gem that consistently follows through with its unusual mix of genres.
